How to vacuum a shag carpet?

Shag rugs add some warmth to your home. Because they have higher fluff, they also look fluffy. They are made up of rich fibers and come in a variety of colors, so it becomes very appealing. But cleaning shag rugs is not an easy task because it can catch debris, dust, pet hair, etc. So how do you vacuum shag rugs?

Step 1: Beat the Carpet

If your rug is not too big, take it outside and beat it. Because it can catch debris, dust, pet hair and other dirt. So a good way to remove larger particles is to hit the rug with a stick or broom to make them fall.

Step 2: Remove the stain

If there are some stains on your light-colored carpet, vacuuming will not clean it. The best time to remove the stain should be the moment it appears. If the stain is serious, you can remove it with baking soda.

Step 3: Choose the right vacuum cleaner

If the vacuum cleaner is not chosen correctly, it may damage your carpet. It is best to use an upright vacuum cleaner without a drum motor.

Step 4: Use Attachments

Using a vacuum cleaner's brush accessory is helpful for vacuuming shag carpets. Attach the brush to the vacuum cleaner and the accessory brush will make it hard but won't damage the carpet fibers.

Step 5: Vacuuming the carpet

Start by turning the rug over and vacuuming the bottom of it. This will not damage the fibers and will help remove dust from the rug. Try to run it over the entire surface so you will notice some dust and dirt on the ground when you lift the rug.

Vacuum the front according to the direction of the carpet, avoiding the zig-zag method. When you vacuum with a brush attachment, you should move from the outside to the inside. When you clean the main part of the shag carpet, you can use the electric roller to assist.

Note:

Do not use shag rugs in crowded areas of the home, such as the living room or kitchen. Do not eat around the rug or walk on it with your shoes on. Try to avoid these behaviors.

Summary:

Vacuuming a shag rug is also not difficult, the best cleaning interval is once a week. If you have time to clean it, then that's the best thing. If not, but you want it to be deep cleaned, then you can pay a professional to help you.
